There's no single edged weapon that we can think of that can out-chop or out-cut a good Kukri. It's true that the best Kukris, like the Cold Steel Gurkha VG-1 San Mai III can be somewhat expensive. While those "thoroughbreds" perform extraordinarily well for the money that they cost, it sometimes seems that what's required is a good, inexpensive, "workhorse" model. This bigger design is an improvement on the normal Kukri and harder to get hold of. Better for most tasks due to longer length and piercing ability. Also easier to use as a throwing knife if you have a thick target board available. Nice.

Excellent service from blades and bows as usual so the score does not reflect on them. Sorely disappointed with these as I bought 2, both were dull as hell and would not cut through the box they came in. One of them has a damaged tip with will require serious honing to get smooth and sharp which in the process will damage the mat black finish. Both had rolled edges on the blade considering coldsteels claims that they make the best and strongest blades in the world these are far from that claim. Now I have spent some time putting an edge on them they are better, I like the sheaths and the overall balance and feel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reply from Blades and Bows : All the cold steel machete`s come with a utility edge . This is suitable for heavy duty chopping and log splitting . If you want a razor edge the 1055 carbon blade is easy to diy sharpen . Too fine an edge and your more prone to chipping the blade with heavy use . With the Cold Steel machetes you get the choice of what type of edge you want to put on your blade . Any items received damaged will always be replaced or refunded .

Amazing value for money. Outperforms my far more expensive machetes - even my favourite latin style machete. Out of the packet it isn't very sharp at all - BUT the coating comes off easily with a file & leaves a good "work" edge. I sharpened mine to a razor edge just using a file & a Gerber pocket sharpener and it's beautiful. Whether you're chopping wood or zombies this is great.
