Late 19th century Sgian Dubh

This Sgian dubh is a typical late 19th century styled piece and is based on historical specimans of the time.
The wooden hilt is carved in a basket weave pattern with metal nails for added decoration. This is a typical Victorian military style and was easier to carve than the celtic knotwork designs that decorated the earlier 18th century dirks and daggers.
The pommel cap and ferule reinforce the wooden hilt and protect against damage. The weapon would have been carried in a metal mounted sheath.
This sgian dubh is the ultimate developement from the earlier sgian achlais types and the celtic styled late 18th century styles and is still in use today.
The sgian dubh measures approx 9 1/4" (235mm)
and the blade measures approx 3 5/8" (93mm)
